Stanford

Stanford is one of the three architecturally best-preserved villages in the Western Cape. One of the landmarks is the Anglican Church on the village commonage. It's idyllic setting makes it a popular venue for country weddings. Take a drive around the village: with its magnificent Milkwood trees; the church and school in the central village have been built from local sandstone; the core of the village has been declared a historical area; there is a very interesting (but sad) story around Sir Robert Stanford after whom the village has been named and the connection to Lady Anne Barnard...
